The American Red Cross Mid-Atlantic Regional Blood Services (ARC-MARBS) is part of the American Red Cross Biomedical Services with headquarters in Washington, DC.  We are dedicated to providing the safest blood and blood products to those in need.  With over 14,000 staff employed within the ARCSB and five million volunteer blood donations made to the organization each year, we remain the nation’s largest blood supplier.

Blood collection began in 1941 as a volunteer program to provide blood for American and British troops in World War II.   Response was enthusiastic and after the war Red Cross continued to collect blood for civilian domestic use.

Today ARCBS has the world’s largest registry of rare blood donors and maintains a frozen supply of rare blood available for immediate shipment across the globe.  We respond to more than 1,000 request each year.  We have the ability to share vast quantities of blood resources during shortages or in times of natural disaster.

The patient testing and reference lab is continually expanding its  to more hospitals and clients by providing more advance tests and techniques.  It is now offering a full service stem cell lab that processes and test the stem collections and distributes the products worldwide.
